Not the only Bost in SA

"Is your Dad giving a talk at the medical school?"

Not that I'm aware of was my first thought. I was informed that there was a guest speaker who shares the same last name as I, and so one of the pediatricians asked if we were related.

In a minute, I'll post a link to Eric Bost. But let me mention this first.

Bost is NOT a common last name. We have the genealogy You find a Bost in the world, and you try to figure out the link.

4 years ago, when I showed up for an elective in the hospital in which I am doing my residency training, there was a medical student with the same last name. We hit it off, and figured that at some point the link worked back to the North Carolina branch of the family.

Back in the 80s, when we had moved to Colorado, my mom (a nurse) read the name tag of one of the residents in the elevator, and it was my a cousin of my Dad's. It's a small Bost world.

I checked my Wits email (South African University/Work) last night, and saw in the weekly announcement of lectures and talks, that the US AMBASSADOR to SA, a Mr. Eric M Clark had given a talk! I'm related to the US Ambassador to SA! Of course, I wanted to see if I could figure out the link. So, I googled, and came up with his bio. And sure enough, he is from North Carolina!

If you were a fan of Northern Exposure, you know that Chris from the radio station had a brother whom he met later in life. There were some differences, such as between Ambassador Bost and I.

Click on: Ambassador Bost

I'm going to email him and try and meet up! Plus, I am sure the embassy has good parties. Smile emoticon

Cheers.
